What to Expect
Our cooking experience takes place at Grum Ma’s House Cultural Center, which we founded to preserve and share the fascinating details of our Bahamian heritage. With instruction from a local cook, you will try your hands at cooking the Bahamian way with native ingredients. The cook’s tips and tricks are easy to follow so you don’t need any skills to make something delicious.
While the food is cooking, we will discuss various aspects of Bahamian culture, seeing Junkanoo artefacts around the center and learning about their use. Once the food is ready, we will dig in, savoring the unique Bahamian flavors. You’ll leave the day with your own authentic Bahamian experience and a local dish that you’ll be able to share with friends and family back home.

See What Our Guests Are Saying
This a great way to truly experience the island! Donald is knowledgeable about all things in Bahamian culture. We had full transport to/from our pickup location, and a great tour of the island with Donald answering all of our questions. We had the best conch fritters since arriving and the lunch that was prepared for us was absolutely delicious! This is a must if you enjoy experiencing true Bahama culture!
The experience was honestly not like I expected but better. My mother and I went on a cruise and wanted to get a local’s perspective on the island. The knowledge I gained about Freeport and the Bahamas as a whole I would not have been able to gain if Donald wouldn’t have offered this tour. Donald knows everyone and everyone knows him, making us feel completely comfortable in our surroundings.
After we ate, we went on a drive around the island and was given a tour that cannot be matched by any other typical touristy tour. It was the most informative and personable tour I have ever experienced. If you are going to be on Grand Bahama Island, I cannot stress how amazing this experience will be for you. The friendliness of the local Bahamian people, their culture, their struggles, etc. can all be learned and understood with this “tour” (it feels more like a cultural experience). Highly recommended to check out.
I really enjoyed this tour, learning about junkanoo, Bush medicine, rake and scrape music, followed by a private lunch at a private hideaway! Donald even went above and beyond to help us out in our quest to get out to Sweetings Cay… great time!!
